Some Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ):
What is body psychotherapy?
Body psychotherapy, or somatic psychology, is a form of therapy that integrates body and mind, based on the principle that they form one unified system. In addition to talk therapy, it uses physical exercises, breathing techniques, and focus on bodily sensations to help release tension, regulate emotions, calm the nervous system, improve connection with your body and feelings, and process trauma. The therapist works with both psychological and physical symptoms to support the client in coping with difficult emotions, stress, anxiety, depression, and trauma.
What is peer counselling?
Peer counselling is the sharing of knowledge and experience by someone with lived experience, offering emotional, social, and/or practical support to the client.
What can I expect from the first meeting?
The goal of the first meeting is to get to know each other, lay the foundation for a trusting and safe relationship, ensure the therapist-client fit, and discuss the client’s concerns and goals.
How long do the sessions last?
A typical session lasts about 50-60 minutes, but it is also possible to choose a longer session time, 80-90 minutes, according to preference.
How often should I attend?
The frequency can vary depending on the client’s needs, but initially, a weekly meeting is common, followed by every 2-3 weeks.
Will what I say remain confidential?
Yes, everything discussed during counseling remains confidential, unless there is a risk to the client’s or others’ safety.
How does psychological counselling help me?
Counselling helps you understand your concerns, feelings, and behavior patterns and acquire coping skills. As a counsellor, I am a mirror you, reflecting back everything I notice, helping you develop your self-awareness and consciousness.
Do I have to do homework?
Sometimes I may recommend exercises or homework to help with the counselling process and achieve results faster.
When should I start seeing results?
Results may vary, but improvement usually starts to appear within a few weeks or months.
Can I cancel or reschedule my appointment?
Most of the time, it is possible, but early notification is necessary. It would be good to inform me as soon as possible (by e-mail or text message) if you are unable to attend the agreed meeting, as the canceled time may be valuable to someone else. If you notify less than 24 hours before the agreed time, a 50 EUR fee will apply; in case of no-show without prior notice, the full fee for the missed appointment must be paid.
Do I have to share everything about my life?
Sharing happens according to the client’s comfort level. I work with the client within their own set boundaries; the client talks exactly as much as they feel they want to share.
